On Remembering Details

Ven. Master Hsuan Hua

We will begin a week-long session tomorrow during which we chant Om Mani Padme Hum. Last year was probably the first time such a session had been held in the world. [Editorís note: The disciples requested that session. The Master advocated steady daily practice and did not advocate intensive twenty-four-hour sessions, but he responded to his disciples wishes and permitted it in this case.] We are continuing that tradition this year.

Om Mani Padme Hum is the mind-seal Dharma of Guanyin Bodhisattva. The 19th day of the second lunar month is the birthday of Guanyin Bodhisattva.  We will purify the boundaries at seven oíclock tomorrow evening. Since I did not attend the session last year, I will not attend this session this year either. I will take a rest. But I will lecture on the sutras as usual on Sunday. All of you should work hard on your own; donít ask others to help you out. Donít think just because I am not attending the session that you have lost something. Whether I am here or not, it is the same. You should understand this principle. Whether I am here or not, it is the same. Whether I am not here, or here, it is still the same. This is an inconceivable state, if you can understand it.
